  Canada and India have concluded negotiations on a
Foreign Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement…   The
United Arab Emirates are drafting new foreign investment
legislation to come into effect later this year… Mauritius
received about US$231 million in FDI in 2006, a figure that exceeds
the cumulative total of the four preceding years… MIGA publishes
study Benchmarking FDI Competitiveness in the Caribbean.

  Focus: FDI in China
 
In the first five months of 2007, FDI into China increased by 9.9
percent from a year earlier to US$25.3 billion, according to Invest
in China, a Web site operated by the country’s Ministry of
Commerce. In 2006 China received US$73.3 billion in FDI, topping
the list of emerging markets. With new reforms in its tax regime,
including the elimination of the two-tier system favoring foreign-
investment enterprises, greater protection of property and new M&A
regulations, China is entering a new phase in its globalization
